FAQ

  • What is unique about your dojo?
At Samurai Arts Academy, we believe in delivering structured and disciplined classes. We are strict in our approach and delivery, but fair at the same time. We train hard, but we have a lot of fun while doing it :-). When you join SAA, you are treated like family, not like a client. Our dojos have been designed to inspire the learners. We want our students to feel a connection with our background.
  • How long does it take to achieve the rank of Black Belt?
At SAA, there is no set timeframe. We don't promote based on attendance, rather we promote students when they deserve it and when they earned the right move up the ranks. Basically, once you have demonstrated that you master the skills, abilities and attitude to be promoted, you will be invited to test in front of a panel of instructors. So, it could take 5+ years to achieve the Black Belt ranks, but one thing is for sure.... You will be a confident and fierce Black Belt.
  • What's your history?
Our founder is Shihan Dwayne Diamond a 6th degree Black Belt in Jiu-Jitsu. Shihan Dwayne opened his dojo in Metcalfe (ON) in 2017. Shihan Dwayne also has a Black-Belt is Kickboxing and Tae Kwon-Do Karate. SAA operates under the tutorial and leadership of Soke Robert Panneton, a 10th dan Jiu-Jitsu Master. Soke Panneton is a legend and well-known public figure.
  • Will the current schedule change?
As the dojo grows, we will need to make minor adjustments to the schedule to allow other students to expand their learning as well. We expect to expand our hours of operations as we get established. We understand that it may inconvenience some members, but we will do our very best to minimize the impact of scheduling changes. Change in current schedule will ONLY be happening to maximize our service delivery and to ensure everyone has the best learning environment as possible.
  • Why is Sensei JP only a 2nd degree BB after practicing for over 20 years?
Sensei JP started his journey in Martial Arts practicing Yoseikan Karate at a young age. He was inspired by his instructors who were 2nd degree Black Belts and were also police officers. After completing a Northern posting, Sensei JP returned to Martial Arts and learned Traditional Jiu-Jitsu. In addition to practicing, Sensei JP practiced Kickboxing and attempted Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but realized that his passion was in self-defense. Sensei JP has been a police officer for 23 years, works long days and travels a lot for work which explains the delay in his journey.
  • Where am I expected to test for belt promotion?
Most of the belt exams are going to be held at our main dojo in Metcalfe (ON). However, we may have the odd ones at our Chesterville Dojo from time to time.
  • How long are the memberships?
After a trial period or if you decide our dojo, you will be required to enroll for an annual contract. Payments will be due on a monthly basis.
